INSIGHTS INTO EMERGENCY PATIENT CARE
Center of Acute Medicine I Philipp Kreuzer
Powered by LKH-Univ.Klinikum Graz, KAGes & Medical University of Graz
The Center for Acute Medicine (ZAM) officially opened in November 2024, initially operating on an interim basis, where patient care is currently still being provided. The final expansion and full commissioning of the entire facility are planned for June 2026.
The ZAM functions as a central emergency room within a tertiary center providing the highest level of care. The spectrum covers acute care in all medical disciplines, including:
• Internal medicine (including interventional cardiology)
• Neurology
• Traumatology and orthopedics (supraregional trauma center)
• Surgery (including neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, and visceral surgery, burn victims)
• Urology
With around 75,000 patients treated in its first year alone, the university hospital underscores its key role in the healthcare infrastructure. As a supraregional center for traumatology, interventional cardiology, and radiology, the ZAM performs a higher-level care function that extends far beyond the borders of Styria.
When fully operational, the ZAM could become Austria's largest multidisciplinary emergency room.
